Photography: A Novel Idea

An unsettling and enigmatic book that tells the mysterious story of a missing girl.

Sadie, a 19-year-old girl, is living on a journey of revenge, with the goal of finding the man that abused and killed her younger sister Mattie.

The main character is complex and very well created. Sadie stutters, a characteristic that is usually associated with shyness and lack of self-confidence. However, and despite being lonely, this character is strong, determined, and fearless. She was born in an unstable family environment and went through a traumatizing childhood, forcing her to mature faster than the other kids so she could support and take care of her young sister.

This story is told in two parallel narratives, captivating us immediately. The first one, on the one hand, follows Sadie’s journey, who tells us her thoughtsand fears in the first person and with every step of her adventure to revenge her sister’s death. The second one, on the other hand, is told through a podcast of a journalist who is investigating the disappearance of a girl, but soon realizes that it is something much more serious. The latter, despite always being one step behind Sadie, gives us important clues about the development of the story.

These distinct reports create an increasingly enigmatic plot. The book shows us a different sight of the dark side of humanity, leaving us uncomfortable and curious to know the end of the story – one which no one is expecting.
