Rising Storytellers Search: Let us be heard already!

We want you to share your stories! ⚡️

“Storytelling as an artform unites us and liberates us – and never have we craved the human connections and sense of community stories promote more than right now.” (Gemstone Studios)

This was the premise behind ‘Rising Storytellers Search’, Sony Picture Television’s Gemstone Studios new project that aims to spark emerging voices from underrepresented creative communities all across the USA. The pilot program is calling out for all creators to share their female-led stories, have their voices heard, and speak up, speak out, and get loud in Hollywood.

When Sony reached out to us, our response was immediate! Our path in the fight for gender equality now finds yet another way to be paved: we get to be one of the project sponsors and partner up with a company that owns such a touching sense of activism.

Gemstone Studios is a recent, independent project, driven by its own fierce spirit, disrupting the industry by introducing and boosting passionate projects created by emerging voices.

‘Rising Storytellers Search’ was presented earlier in August at Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival – and you already know how much we love this lady, would we have created Thelma & Louise if we didn’t? The presentation counted with the presence of a panel of distinctive female pioneers in the creative space. This was the case of the talented ladies Esta Spalding, Isabella Gomez, Sonay Hoffman, Diane Paragas, and Mary Angélica Molina. The moderation was made by Marie Jacobson, the power woman who leads Gemstone Studios.

2020 was the chosen year to propel this initiative since it marks the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment! And what better way to celebrate female empowerment than making all females heard?

This three-month program will provide four finalists a chance to be paired with Sony Picture Television or Ideas United mentors to pitch their concept to a panel of renowned industry judges. The winner will be offered a development deal worth $30,000 USD to bring their idea to life and see their voice elevated!

Along with Bentonville Film Festival, Cetx, Sony Alpha, Black Information Network and Ideas United, Josefinas is proud to be among the partners as the only European company.

Advocating female empowerment, self-expression, and supporting emerging and unheard voices has always been one of our missions, and we couldn’t miss the chance to do it once more.
